## Common questions

### What is Marnie?

Marnie is a local-first automatic expense tracker for iPhone and Android. It turns supported payment events and manual entries into a reviewable money record, learns from confirmed corrections, and forecasts what may be safe to spend.

### Does Marnie require a bank connection?

No. Marnie can track spending without linking a bank account. Apple Pay activity can reach Marnie through an Apple Shortcut, supported Android payment notifications can be captured, and transactions can also be added by text or voice.

### How does Apple Pay expense tracking work?

Marnie does not read your complete Apple Pay history. A personal automation in Apple's Shortcuts app passes eligible Wallet transaction activity to Marnie. Wallet events can be incomplete or differ from the final issuer record, so captured entries remain reviewable.

### How does Android notification capture work?

You choose which supported apps are payment-related. Marnie extracts transaction details from eligible notifications, keeps irrelevant notifications out, and leaves uncertain captures ready for your review.

### Does Marnie learn transaction categories?

When you confirm a correction to a merchant, transaction name, amount, or category, Marnie can use it to improve future transactions from that merchant. Mixed-use or uncertain merchants may still need review.

### Can I log an expense by speaking?

Yes. You can add income or expenses by speaking, typing, or talking to the Marnie assistant, so a missed payment event does not have to become a forgotten transaction.

### Where does Marnie keep my financial data?

Core financial records stay on your device. Backup and restore are optional. Local is the privacy-preserving AI default, while Automatic and Cloud modes can send relevant context to a cloud AI service when those modes are used.

### When will Marnie be available?

Marnie is coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the early-access list to receive launch news and first-access details.
