Connect Marnie to Claude

Add Marnie to Claude as a custom connector, then ask what you spent this month, which bills are due or whether you're safe to spend this weekend. Claude answers with Marnie's own cards.

Every step in Claude, from copying the link to tapping Allow.

Set up Claude in 3 steps

  1. Settings → Connectors → Add

In Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop, open Settings (Customize in newer versions), then Connectors, and choose Add.

  2. Add custom connector, paste the link

Pick Add custom connector, name it Marnie and paste the link below as the server URL. Then choose Connect.

  3. Sign in to Marnie and tap Allow

A Marnie page opens. Sign in with the account you use in the app, choose whether the assistant may suggest transactions, then tap Allow access.

Before you start, in Marnie

Do this once. It covers every assistant you connect.

  1. Marnie Pro

Connecting an assistant is part of Marnie Pro. Siri, widgets and capture stay free.

  2. Turn on sharing

In Marnie, open Profile → AI agents and switch on Share with AI agents. Marnie then keeps a short summary for your assistants, refreshed when you use the app.

  3. Copy the link

It's the same link for everyone, shown on this page and in Profile → AI agents. Signing in is what ties it to your account.

Step by step in Claude

Claude on the web (claude.ai)

  1. Go to claude.ai and open Settings, then Connectors. In newer versions the same list is under Customize.
  2. Choose Add custom connector. Type Marnie as the name and paste the Marnie link as the remote MCP server URL. Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty.
  3. Choose Add, then Connect. A Marnie sign-in page opens in a new window.
  4. Sign in, decide whether Claude may suggest transactions, and tap Allow access. You're sent back to Claude.
  5. In a new chat, open the tools menu (the + or sliders button under the message box) and check Marnie is switched on.

Claude Desktop (Mac and Windows)

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors. Connectors you added on claude.ai are already there.
  2. To add it here instead, choose Add custom connector and paste the same link. The sign-in page opens in your browser.
  3. After you tap Allow access, the browser hands you back to Claude Desktop. If it asks to open the app, say yes.

On your phone

  1. Add the connector on the web or in Claude Desktop first. Claude for iPhone and Android uses the connectors on your account, but you can't add a custom one from the phone app.
  2. Once it's added, open a chat on your phone and ask about your money. Marnie is in the tools menu there too.

What you can ask Claude

Answers come back as Marnie cards: the spending, the bills or the goal, laid out the way the app shows them.

Claude sees only the summary Marnie shares. Balances, net worth, notes, receipts, card and account numbers and your location never leave your phone.

  • “How much did I spend this month?”Your total and the top categories, with last month alongside. Also works for today, this week, last month and this year.
  • “What did I spend on coffee last month?”The matching payments from the last 90 days, filtered by category, merchant or type, with the total.
  • “Which bills are coming up?”The next bills and payday Marnie knows about, with dates and amounts.
  • “Am I safe to spend this weekend?”What's left in your budget for the period and how much that is per day.
  • “How close am I to my savings goals?”Each goal's progress, saved amount and target.
  • “Add a $12 lunch at Subway”A draft in Capture Review, if you allowed suggestions when you connected. It's saved once you approve it.

If something goes wrong

The usual fixes, starting with the ones specific to Claude.

There's no Add custom connector option
On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds custom connectors for the whole organization first, in Admin settings. On Free, Claude allows one custom connector, so remove another one if you already have it.
Claude answers without using Marnie
Check Marnie is switched on in the chat's tools menu, or start the question with “In Marnie…”. Claude asks before it uses a connector for the first time; choose Allow.
The sign-in page says “This request has expired”
Connection requests last 10 minutes and work once. Go back to the assistant and start connecting again.
It says connecting is part of Marnie Pro
The account you signed in with doesn't have Marnie Pro. Upgrade in the app, or choose Not you? and sign in with the account that has it.
I sign in to Marnie with Apple or Google
Use the email option on the Marnie sign-in page: enter the email your Marnie account uses and type the code we send. Using Hide My Email? The code goes to that relay address and is forwarded to you.
The assistant says there's nothing to show
Check Share with AI agents is on in Profile → AI agents, then open Marnie once so it can send its first summary.
The numbers are a day or two old
Marnie refreshes the summary when you use the app. Open Marnie, then ask again.
A purchase I asked it to add isn't in Marnie
Suggestions arrive as drafts in Capture Review the next time you open Marnie. If the assistant says it can't add, reconnect and tick Suggest transactions on the Marnie page.

Claude and Marnie: questions

Can I add Marnie on Claude's free plan?

Yes. Anthropic allows one custom connector on Claude Free, and more on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Connecting Marnie itself needs Marnie Pro.

Does the connector work in the Claude phone app?

Yes, once you've added it on claude.ai or in Claude Desktop. The phone app uses the same connectors, so you can ask about your spending from your phone. You just can't add a custom connector from it.

What does Claude see?

Only the summary Marnie shares when Share with AI agents is on: spending by period and category, upcoming bills, safe to spend, savings goals and the last 90 days of transactions. Never balances, net worth, notes, receipts, card or account numbers, or your location.

How do I disconnect Claude?

In Marnie, open Profile → AI agents and remove Claude. Its next request is refused. You can also remove the connector in Claude's settings.
